Sharm el Sheikh

Sharm el Sheikh is Egypt’s most popular resort and is located at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Thousands of European tourists arrive here every day to enjoy the excellent weather and scuba diving. Over the years, Sharm has grown and continues to do so. Although the resort can’t develop to the south due to Ras Mohammed National Park, building work continues further inland and to the north of the airport.

Na’ama Bay
Na’ama Bay is the lively centre of Sharm el Sheikh with is bright lights, bars, shops, restaurants and discos. A full range of hotel options are available in Na’ama Bay although only a handful offer all inclusive. However, that is not really an issue as holiday makers are spoilt for choice for places to eat and drink in Na’ama Bay. While hotels are cheap, visitor can also rent apartments in Sharm in places like Delta Sharm. There are also plenty of shops and supermarkets for those who are self-catering.

Sharks Bay
Close to Sharm el Sheikh airport is Sharks Bay. The area is much quieter than Na’ama Bay and a number of excellent, all-inclusive hotels can be found here including the highly recommended Hilton Sharks Bay. There is a small section of beach which is popular with local dive centres who come here on a daily basis. There are a couple of shops, internet cafe and a beach bar/food outlet although most of the hotels in Sharks Bay are self contained with their own facilities and private beaches.

Nabq Bay
Situated 10 minutes north of Sharm el Sheikh airport, Nabq Bay is a developing area of Sharm. It overlooks the Straits of Tiran and the areas 5* hotels line the sea front. 3* and 4* hotels can also available in Nabq Bay but these do tend to be located away from the sea front. The area has a number of shops, bars and restaurants, more of which are opening all the time.

As a diver, I always stay in Na’ama Bay. The Bay View hotel is nice and central plus Emperor Divers are based there.

Looking forward to my next trip in June.
